(For a list of suburbs in the City of Darebin, scroll down to the end of this page)

It seeks to ensure that international students are grounded on a personal level, included as part of the wider community, and empowered to negotiate whatever systems they need to in order to ensure that their time in Australia is fruitful, safe and happy.

The last couple of years have been great for DOSA, including participation in cultural programs, movie, music and dance events, workshops and performances, international food making, support and referrals, fun activities and games, a regular social space to hang out and chat and much more!

DOSA IN 2012:

Today DOSA is facing an important (and exciting) stage where decisions about its future direction and sustainability need to be made. During 2012 DOSA will be undertaking an exciting program of activities that will provide overseas students with the opportunity to have discuss and debate these issues, and to learn the skills and gain the confidence to help them make DOSA into a stronger organization. Of course, there will also be the chance to have fun and connect with each other and the Darebin community.

Some history of DOSA

Initially developed under the auspices of the City of Darebin(starting in late 2009) and following negotiations between Council and Darebin Information, Volunteer and Resource Service (DIVRS), DOSAwill be one of DIVRS’ programs for the following 12 months. Following a successful application for funding from the Department of Immigration and Australian Citizenship (Diversity and Social Cohesion Program), and with continued support from Council, DIVRS has been able to recently hire a project worker to work with DOSAand to ensure that DOSA can continue to enjoy a calendar of dynamic events. The main goals for DOSA for the next year will be to build the capacity of DOSA members to better organise and run their collective and to better enable DOSA members to make connections with the broader Darebin community. Forthcoming events and opportunities for DOSA will include participation in the City ofDarebin’s Youth Services Summer Camping Program, social events, involvement in local festivals and volunteering opportunities, and peer support programs.

Any overseas student who lives and / or studies in the Darebin area are warmly encouraged to get involved with DOSA. Feel free to contact Meredith on dosa@divrs.org.au or on 9480 8205, or find us on Facebook at ‘DOSA Darebin’.
